Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Solvent (“Solvent”, “we”, “us”) runs the daily puzzle website at solventgames.com. Solvent is operated by Jacob Frost. This policy explains what information we collect when you use Solvent, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it short and plain on purpose.
The short version
- We collect only what we need to run your account, save your puzzle progress and handle Solvent Plus.
- We don’t sell your personal information. Free players see ads from Google, which may use cookies; Solvent Plus members see no ads.
- If you say yes to cookies, we use the Meta Pixel to measure how well our own ads on Facebook and Instagram work. You can say no, or change your mind at any time.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, the display name you choose, and your password. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider (Supabase) and stored in a scrambled (hashed) form that we can’t read. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with us. We don’t receive your Google password.
Game information. To save your progress we store what you do in the game: puzzles you’ve started and solved, your times, mistakes and hints, streaks and streak freezes, badges and XP, practice and archive results, your chosen difficulty, your friend code, and the friends and groups you add, and your daily Hivemind answer and guess. Other players only ever see Hivemind totals (how many people picked each answer), never who picked what.
Host applications. If you apply to host a puzzle, we store the name, contact details (an email address or social handle) and puzzle idea you type in, plus your account if you’re signed in. Only we can see applications, and we use them only to get in touch about hosting.
Subscription information. If you subscribe to Solvent Plus, Stripe collects your payment details directly. We receive and store your Stripe customer ID, which plan you’re on, and your subscription status and dates (for example, when a trial or billing period ends). We don’t receive or store full card numbers.
Technical information. Like any website, the services that deliver Solvent to your browser (our host and the providers listed below) receive basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We don’t use analytics tools to track you. If you play for free, our advertising partner may also collect information, as described under “Advertising” below.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, sign you in and keep you signed in on your device.
- To save your progress and sync it across the devices you sign in on.
- To show features such as streaks, badges, leaderboards, friends and groups. Other signed-in players can see your display name, your friend code, and your results on the daily leaderboards (your time, mistakes and hints for each daily puzzle). Friend requests and friend lists are only visible to the two players involved, and a group’s name and members are only visible to the people in it. They can’t see your email address.
- To provide Solvent Plus: starting trials, processing subscriptions, and letting you switch plans or cancel.
- To send account emails you ask for, such as email confirmations and password resets.
- To keep Solvent working, fix problems and prevent abuse or cheating.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Storage on your device
Solvent saves information in your browser’s local storage, a small storage area on your own device, so it can keep you signed in and let you keep playing if your connection drops. This includes your sign-in session and a copy of your game progress. Solvent itself doesn’t set advertising cookies, but our advertising partner may (see below). You can clear this storage at any time in your browser settings, which will sign you out on that device. Progress synced to your account isn’t affected.
Who we share information with
We don’t sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Solvent, and only as needed for them to do that work:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, sign-in and the database that stores your progress and subscription status |
| Stripe | Payment processing for Solvent Plus |
| Netlify | Hosting the website |
| “Continue with Google” sign-in (if you use it), web fonts, delivering account emails such as sign-up confirmations and password resets, and showing ads to free players (Google AdSense) | |
| Meta (Facebook and Instagram) | Measuring our own ads on Facebook and Instagram with the Meta Pixel, only if you accept cookies (see “Our ads on Facebook and Instagram” below) |
| jsDelivr | Delivering a code library the site uses to talk to Supabase |
Each of these providers handles information under its own privacy policy. We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our players or others, or as part of a sale or merger of Solvent, in which case this policy would continue to apply.
Advertising
Solvent is free to play and is partly paid for by ads. If you don’t have Solvent Plus, you’ll see ads served by Google AdSense on the Puzzles and Leaderboard pages. Ads never appear inside a puzzle, and Solvent Plus members don’t see ads at all.
Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, measure them and, where allowed, tailor them to your interests based on your visits to Solvent and other websites. You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you’ll be asked for your consent before personalized ads are shown.
Our ads on Facebook and Instagram
We advertise Solvent on Facebook and Instagram. To see whether those ads work, we use the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code from Meta Platforms. It only runs if you choose “Accept” on the cookie notice. When it runs, it tells Meta that you visited Solvent and when you start or finish a puzzle, create an account, apply to host, or start a Solvent Plus checkout, along with technical details such as your browser and IP address. If you type your email address into a form on Solvent (for example when creating an account), the pixel may also send Meta a scrambled (hashed) version of it so Meta can match your visit to a Facebook or Instagram account. Meta doesn’t receive your password, your puzzle answers or your messages.
Meta uses this information under its own privacy policy, and you can control how Meta uses it for ads in your Facebook ad preferences. To turn the pixel off on Solvent, choose “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the Profile page and select “No thanks”.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and game information for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except for records we must keep by law (such as payment and tax records, which Stripe and we may need to keep for several years).
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can see and change your display name in your Profile. For anything else, contact us.
- Deletion: email us from the address on your account and we’ll delete your account and data.
- Subscriptions: you can cancel Solvent Plus at any time on the Plus page.
- Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, such as to request a copy of your data, object to certain uses, or complain to a data protection authority. Contact us and we’ll help.
Children
Solvent is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We use reputable providers, encrypted (HTTPS) connections and access rules that let each player read and change only their own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will let you know if a breach affects you when the law requires it.
International users
Our service providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries. By using Solvent, you understand your information may be transferred to countries with different data protection laws than your own.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know on the site or by email before it takes effect.
